UNION — Dancing, dining, live music, and the opportunity to bid on Christmas gifts and decorations ranging from decorated Christmas trees and cedar reindeer to items for Carolina and Clemson fans will be part of the Union County Health Care Foundation’s Annual Christmas Gala this Saturday.

Greta Bailey, Volunteer Coordinator for the Union County Medical Center and Executive Director of the Union County Healthcare Foundation, said Wednesday that the Christmas Gala will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at Main Street Junction in downtown Union.

“We’re going to have a live band, United Sound Entertainment, and a DJ, Ronnie Lybrand,” Bailey said. “We’re going to have dancing and we’re going to serve heavy hors d’oeuvres. We’re also going to have silent auctions throughout the evening.”

Bailey said that tickets are $25 each and are now on sale at Union Medical Center and at WBCU. While tickets will not be sold at the door, Bailey said persons interested in attending but unable to purchase their tickets in advance can call her and have a ticket set aside for them. She said she will have those set aside tickets at Main Street Junction for them to pay for at the door on the evening of the Gala.

Union County Healthcare Foundation

Saturday’s Christmas Gala is the second one the Foundation has hosted in the past two years and is one of several fundraisers it holds each year to raise funds for its activities.

According to its website (www.unioncountyhcf.com) the Foundation “is a network of caring citizens whose goal is to identify and secure additional funding to supplement the efforts of” Union Medical Center, Ellen Sagar Nursing Center, Union County EMS, and “the medical community of Union County in providing high quality, cost effective healthcare.”

The Foundation supplements the efforts of those agencies by raising funds through a combination of charitable donations and fundraising events. Its website further states that “100 percent” of all the funds raised by the Foundation are applied to fulfilling its mission of supporting the medical institutions and health care providers of Union County.

Since it was established in 1993, the Foundation has given nearly $2 million towards improving healthcare services in the county through the purchase of the following items:

• $235,000 for a Picture, Archiving & Communications System for the Radiology Department

• $1 million for the construction of the new Outpatient Surgery Center

• a down payment for the Union Transport van

• a down payment for a new ambulance for Union County EMS

• a fetal heart monitor for the OB Department

• private patient room renovations

• renovations to triage area in ER

• new training crisis mannequin

• new equipment for the Intensive Care Unit

• renovations for the Pharmacy Department

• Dinamapp Blood Pressure/Thermometer unit for Outpatient Surgery and 3rd Floor

• a Surgical Headlight for surgery
