CARLISLE — With Halloween now past and Thanksgiving rapidly approaching with Christmas not too far behind the holiday season is getting into full swing and the Town of Carlisle is ready for it with four traditional community events in the weeks ahead.
The first is the Food Distribution which will be held Thursday, Nov. 16 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Carlisle Town Hall.
The Food Distribution is for residents of the Town of Carlisle and surrounding community only. Persons who want to receive the food to be distributed must bring with them identification confirming they are residents of the town and the surrounding community.
The bags of food will be distributed on first come first served basis.
There will also be a representative of the Union County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse will also be present.
This year, Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, Nov. 23 and, as in years past, there will be not one but two special community events in Carlisle.
The first of these traditions will be at the Carlisle Fire Station from 8-10 a.m. when the Mobley/Booker Family hosts their 15th Annual Thanksgiving Community Breakfast.
The second will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. when Carlisle Christian Fellowship Church, 4513 King Kennedy Highway, Carlisle, serves their Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner at the church.
Just as the Halloween portion of the holiday season gave way to Thanksgiving, so the Thanksgiving portion of the season will give way to Christmas and in Carlisle that means the Carlisle Christmas Parade.
This year, the parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. As in years past, it will begin at the intersection of King Kennedy Highway and Thomas where the bands, floats and other participants will line up. The parade will proceed down the highway and then onto Fish Dam Avenue.
After the parade, there will be a Christmas Drop-In at the Carlisle Town Hall where refreshments will be served.
