Mary and Gene Hailman of Union are celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary today and will be undertaking a great adventure courtesy of their children and their families.
Gene Hailman married the former Mary Smith on June 4, 1966 at Sardis United Methodist Church in a wedding ceremony officiated by Preacher Hayes.
Fifty years later, Mary and Gene are taking a 22 day cross country trip! They will begin their adventure in Memphis, Tennessee where they will then head to Texas, Arizona, San Diego, Los Angeles, Monterrey, San Francisco, Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park, San Joaquin Valley, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Sedona, New Mexico, back through the Texas panhandle, and Oklahoma. Their adventure ends in Jackson, Tennessee!

Mary and Gene are the parents of three daughters: Holly Robertson of Union, SC; LaPaula Williams of Charleston, SC; and Carrie O’Brien of Charlotte, NC.
They have 10 grandchildren: Brittany Wiggins Hodge, Kenneth Wiggins, II, Laney Robertson & Benjamin, Bradley Bowman, Amelia and Kaleb Williams & Andrew and Ann Douglas O’Brien
They also have two great-granchildren: Liam Wiggins and Charlie Hodge
Gene owns G&M Contract Painting. He is semi-retired, but continues to work so he doesn’t drive Mary crazy!
Mary retired from Naval Facilities Engineering Command after 30-plus years. She works full-time at home baking, canning, gardening and making sure she is keeping Gene straight!
