Whitmire defeats Newberry 7-0 in girls tennis

Whitmire’s girls tennis team is young but where they lack in age the Wolverines make up with talent.

The Wolverines’ girls tennis team traveled to Newberry Wednesday and dominated the 2A school, 7-0.

Whitmire has four freshmen, two eighth graders and one senior.

Alex Cromer—Whitmire’s lone upperclassman—won No. 1 singles play in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, vs. Hannah Carey.

In No. 2 singles action, freshman Savannah Simon defeated Daija Rogers 6-1, 6-3.

No. 3 singles play saw Whitmire freshman D.J. Norton blank Shikeria Henderson 6-0, 6-0.

In No. 4 singles play, eighth-grader Bethany Cromer defeated Nala Moon 6-2, 6-2.

In No. 5 singles play, freshman Anna Hall won 6-4, 6-3 vs. Sarah Jane Senn.

In doubles action, Cromer and Simon defeated Carey and Rogers 8-0.

Eighth-grader Rebecca Glymph and freshman Teresa Patterson defeated Betsy Shull and Eva Derrick 7-6(3), 6-2 in No. 2 doubles play.
