Whitmire Community School looks to rebound from its first two losses as they travel Friday night to play Calhoun Falls Charter.

Calhoun Falls Charter (1-1) got its first victory last week vs. the Carolina Titans, 45-0. and lost to Crescent in week zero, 18-14.

Whitmire lost 53-6 vs. Mid-Carolina last week, and fell 27-0 against Ridge Spring-Monetta in week zero.

Despite the Blue Flashes large margin of victory last week, Whitmire’s head coach Donald Addis is optimistic about his team’s chances Friday.

“We feel we match up pretty well with Calhoun Falls. We each have about the same number of players. They have more speed than we do so we’ll have to prepare to keep their speed contained,” Addis said.

Calhoun Falls Charter has a scoring weapon in quarterback Jordan Ford. The 6’2”, 160-pound senior is a versatile athlete and rarely comes off the field. Ford plays defensive back and returns kicks for the Blue Flashes.

Ford has three rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown in the young season.

“Ford is an outstanding player. He can score from anywhere on the field. They utilize him well on offense and he returns all kicks, so we’ll have to be aware of where he is at all times,” Addis added.

Whitmire’s first two opponents outscored the Wolverines 80-6.

Calhoun Falls Charter’s Robert Turman and Rae Rae Cade are threats offensively and each scored on touchdown runs.

Whitmire will need its defense to step up and limit the Blue Flashes’ running game.

The Wolverines are getting better every game and new offensive contributions from senior running back Tim Epps helps.

“We’re working on our running game to open up the pass. We feel we found something last week when Epps has the ball in his hands. He runs extremely hard,” Addis said.

Senior wide receiver Chris Rice had a 50-yard reception last week vs. Mid-Carolina —Whitmire’s longest play from scrimmage this season.

Wide receiver Doug Inman led the team in receptions and receiving yards for a second straight week with three catches for 32 yards against Mid-Carolina. Inman also added a touchdown reception.

The Wolverines need to improve on ball security this week. Whitmire halted drives with two fumbles in last week’s contest.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
