Public safety searching for attackers

The Union Public Safety Department is searching for two men who attacked a man early Aug. 29, hitting him in the head with an oak board while he was taking trash to a dumpster.

The incident report states officers were dispatched to a busniess at 803 S. Pinckney St., Union, in reference to an armed robbery. When they arrived they found the victim sitting in front of the building bleeding very badly from his head. EMS was notified and transported the victim to the hospital. The man told police he was hit in the back of the head with a wooden object.

The store clerk told officers she placed some boxes out front so she could take them to the dumpster but the victim took them for her while she stood out front. She said he put the boxes in the dumpster and turned around to come back when two males came out from behind the dumpster and hit the victim in the back of the head with an oak board. The woman said she ran back into the store, locked the door and then went into the bathroom and called police.

The assailants are described as wearing long sleeves, long pants, gloves and masks. The one who actually struck the victim is approximately 6'3”. A search of the area by public safety officers and deputies with the Union County Sheriff's Office failed to turn up the assailants.

Armed Robbery

Four men who robbed a man on the front porch of a West Henrietta Street residence Monday night are also being sought by the public safety department.

According to the incident report, the victim said that around 10:30 p.m. he was stepping on to the front porch of the residence at 302A West Henrietta St. when four black males with white shirts over their faces came running up to him. The victim said two of the men had black pistols and pointed them at his head while the other two went through his pants pockets. He said all of them were saying “What you got?” and “Give it up.”

The victim said all four of his attackers were wearing blue jeans and were roughly his height. He said they were attempting to disguise their voices by talking with a deep voice.

The robbers took a cellphone valued at $110; a black wallet containing $130 in cash, the victim’s SC driver license and a credit card; and his car and house keys. The victim said the four also tried to enter the residence but the door ws locked and he wouldn’t move out of the way. He said they ran behind the apartment but he wasn’t sure where they went.

Assault And Battery Second-Degree

A 16-year-old juvenile is charged by the public safety department with assault and battery second-degree for allegedly hitting a girl in the back of the head. The incident occurred on Aug. 27 while the two were riding on a school bus. The victim's mother said the blow to her head caused her daughter to have severe headaches. The 16-year-old was taken into custody the following day.

Incidents

The following incidents are being investigated by the sheriff’s office:

Burglary, Larceny

Thieves stole $6,830 worth of property and did $27,500 worth of damage to a vacant residence at 215 Meadow Woods Road, Union, sometime during the past three months.

The incident report states the burglary occurred sometime between 8 a.m. June 25 and just after 9 p.m. Friday. The complainant said the items stolen include a wood heater ($1,500), water heater ($400), light fixture ($30), a washer and dryer ($1,000). A car, possiby a Pontiac or Buick, valued at $1,000 was also stolen from beneath the carport.

The thieves also stole several items from a trailer on the property including an air conditioning unit ($2,000), water heater ($400), dishwasher ($500),

The damage to the residence and trailer totaled $27,500 and was largely due to wiring being ripped from the walls. The value of the wiring taken was not listed in the report.

Another Burglary/Larceny

Cameras, TVs, camouflage clothes and game calls were the target of a thief or thieves who broke into a resdence and two campers at 193 Jeter Chapel Road sometime between 8 a.m. July 27 and 8 a.m. Friday.

The incident report states the victim said someone busted out the back door window pane, went inside his hunting club residence and went through everything stealing several items. The items taken were two Game Stealth Cameras, a 27-inch TV, camouflage clothes, game calls and a hatchet.

In addition to the residence, the victim said two campers on the property were also broken into. The door to one was damaged but nothing was missing. The other camper was not damaged but several items were missing including a 27-inch TV, a Moultrie Game camera and a memory card reader

Four small cedar trees growing outside the residence had been pulled out of the ground. A set of posthole diggers that had been sitting outside the residence were also gone.

The total value of the items stolen is $1,360 while the damage to the residence and campers is estimated at $400.

Car Vandalized

Every part of a woman’s black 2000 Lincoln was scratched while it was parked at 4296 Lockhart Highway, Lot 6, Union. The vandalism, which occurred sometime between 10:30 p.m. Friday and 9:15 a.m. Saturday, resulted in $3,000 worth of damage.

Another Car Vandalized

The right side window of a white 1999 Chrysler parked at 209 Jeffries St., Union, was busted out sometime between 1 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Saturday causing $300 worth of damage.

Larceny Of Cords And Wires

Sometime between 11:30 a.m. Aug. 22 and 9 a.m. Aug. 23, someone cut the wires leading out of a battery charger at 2439 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Buffalo. The thief or thieves also stole a 150-foot drop cord, a 30-foot drop cord and a 25-foot drop cord.

Also taken was a power wire from an adjacent building. The power cord from the victim’s drill press was cut off and the 40-foot long lead wires from his welder also taken.

The items taken have a combined value of $305.

Larceny Of A TV

A 19-inch flat screen TV valued at $350 was stolen from a camper parked at 1019 Maybinton Road, Whitmire, sometime between 8 a.m. July 25 and 8:30 p.m. Aug. 28. The thief or thieves also did $50 worth of damage to the camper door. The incident report states it appeared the thief or thieves tried unsuccessfully to break into another camper.

Larceny Of Beer

Two 12-packs of Bud Light were the target of a thief who stole them from a convenience store at 1315 Lockhart Highway, Union, early Sunday morning.

An employee told the responding deputy she was checking out customers at the register when she observed a black male walk out of the store with the beer. She said she was unable to see what vehicle he got into or which direction he went because the store was packed with customers at the time.

The total value of the beer is $20.

Illegal Dumping

Deputies are looking for the person or persons who dumped some concrete block and tree limbs out on the end of Stutts Avenue sometime between 8 a.m. July 20 and 4 p.m. Aug. 29.

The following incidents are being investigated by the public safety department:

Tires Slashed

Three Michelin tires on a 2003 Toyota Sequoia parked in a parking lot at 175 Industrial Park Road, Union, were slashed sometime between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 12:20 p.m. Sunday causing $500 worth of damage.

Break-In, Vandalism

Sometime between 6 p.m. Aug. 25 and 8:45 p.m. Sunday, someone broke the back window of an apartment at 271 Meansville Road, Union, entered the building and poured Texas Pete all over the victim's bed causing $200 damage.

Camera Stolen

A red Nikon Cool Pix L22 camera worth $200 was stolen from its case hanging in a bedroom at 521 N. Pinckney St., Union, sometime between 1 a.m. Aug. 25 and 2:30 p.m. Aug. 27.

Burglary

They pried open the door but the would-be thief or thieves failed to steal anything from a residence at 320 Barnado Road, Union. The incident occurred sometime between 11 p.m. Friday and 3:15 p.m. Saturday when the master lock securing the door was pried off. Though they didn't steal anything, the burglars caused $100 damage when they pried off the lock.

Arrests

The following persons were arrested by the public safety department: .

Phillip Maurice Lawson, 26, 149 Porter Road, Union, charged Saturday with disorderly conduct.

Karen Nance Wines, 51, 296 Meansville Road, Apt. E-12, Union, charged Friday with two counts of unlawful use of telephone.

The following persons were arrested by the sheriff’s office:

Ronald Christopher Roach, 46, 146 Hamm St., Union, charged Friday with public intoxication.

Donna Lynn Roberts, 49, 4526 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union, charged Friday with driving under suspension.

Gerard Kyle Gory, 21, 220 Bobo St., Union, charged Sunday with breach of peace.

Henrietta Crosby Epps, 44, 441 Kelly Road, Union, charged Monday with disorderly conduct.

Jeffrey Wayne Richardson, 39, 113 College St., Union, charged Monday with disorderly conduct.

Melinda Ann Richardson, 34, 113 College St., Union, charged Monday with disorderly conduct.
