Two men who literally drove up to a store and stole a laptop computer are being sought by the Union Public Safety Department

The incident report states the theft occurred Aug. 19 at a business at 513 N. Duncan Bypass. The store's loss prevention officer said around 10 p.m. two white males entered the store, took a Hewlett Packard laptop valued at $798 and then went into the garden patio area. They left the laptop on top of the exit door in the garden area and then exited the building.

The loss prevention officer said the two males got into a white Ford F250 crew cab longwheel base pickup and pulled up to the exit door of the garden area. One of the males got out of the truck, reached into a gap in the fence, took the laptop, got back into the truck and he and the other male then left the scene.

Larceny

The public safety department is investigating the theft of several items with a total value of $120 from a residence at 222 S. Boyce St., Union. The incident occurred sometime between 8 a.m. Aug. 9 and 8:40 p.m., Aug. 24. The items taken were a cellphone charger; the base for the home phone; a mirror; and a Ten Commandments plaque.

Horse Recovered

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is hoping to locate the owner of a horse found on the side of the Baileytown Road on Aug. 25. The incident report describes the horse as sorrell in color with a blazed face, one white rear sock and being 14.3 hands tall. When it was found it had a red halter with an approximately 3-foot broken lead hanging from the halter. The animal is currently being cared for by the man who found it and reported it to the sheriff's office. The approximate value of the horse is $900.

Grand Larceny

A trailer and an ATV with a combined value of $8,800 were the targets of the thief or thieves who stole them from the yard of a residence at 1460 Bobby Faucette Road, Jonesville, sometime between 8:30 p.m. Aug. 25 and 8:30 a.m. Aug. 26.

The incident report filed with the sheriff’s office describes the trailer as a black, 6x10 frame trailer with a wood floor and no gate. The victim said there was a large air conditioning unit on the trailer at the time it was stolen but the thief or thieves pushed it off.

The ATV is a 2009 4x4 Kawasaki 610 Mule with RealTree camouflage paint. It's VIN is JK1AFEC139B511265 and model number is KAF400C95. The victim said he had removed the ATV's seat belts.

Illegal Dumping

The sheriff's office is also investigating two incidents of illegal dumping. The first, which was reported Aug. 22, involved three bags of trash thrown over the fence into the recycling center on John Hart Road. The trash was apparently tossed over the fence sometime between 7 p.m. Aug. 21 and 7 a.m. Aug. 22. The incident report states the complainant went through the bags and found mail inside them. The mail was turned over to the sheriff's office as evidence and the rest of the trash properly disposed of by the complainant.

The second occurred sometime between midnight Aug. 15 and 6 a.m. Aug. 26 at 3288 Santuc-Carlisle Highway. The incident report states a deputy on patrol spotted several bags of household trash thrown behind the Carlsan Headstart building.
