A Union man is facing charges, including allegedly spitting on a sheriff’s deputy.

Paul David Thomas, 36, 216 Raymond Road, Union, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with disorderly conduct, destruction of county property and spitting on a law enforcement officer.

The incident report states a deputy was dispatched to 207 Oakland Road, Union, early Aug. 22 in response to a domestic dispute. The complainant told the deputy Thomas had been there trying to get into her house and would not leave. The woman said when he heard she called 911 he left and went to another trailer. She said she just wanted Thomas placed on trespassing notice.

While the deputy was getting the information from the complainant, the report states he heard Thomas cursing and talking loudly. The deputy went to the lot where Thomas was only to have him jump off the porch and come towards him. The report states the deputy saw an open knife stuck under Thomas’ belt buckle as he approached. He pulled out his taser and ordered Thomas to drop the knife and lay down on his stomach. Thomas complied and was handcuffed.

The report states when the deputy asked him to get in the patrol car, Thomas became irate and started kicking. The deputy then sprayed him with OC spray. As he was transporting him to jail, the deputy notified jailers Thomas had been sprayed with OC spray and was irate and spitting.

After arriving at the jail, the deputy assisted jailers in getting Thomas out of the patrol car. Once out of the car, the report states Thomas started spitting on the deputy and did so several times before jailers could get him into the jail.
