Seventy-four students received their diplomas — including several from the Upstate and one from Union County. Aleshia Meadows, an employee of Provident Community Bank in Union, was one of those graudating students.
Graduation was held in the Chandler PEES Center on Lander University’s campus in Greenwood. The graduates’ CEOs were in attendance to see their three-year accomplishment.
This year’s school was hosted by the South Carolina Bankers Association for the first time ever this year at Lander University under the leadership of Chairman Richard N. Westbrook, SCBT, N.A., Columbia.
Approximately 165 junior level and mid-management officers and administrators from statewide commercial banks, savings institutions, farm credit banks and even from the Federal Reserve attended the one-week school. Throughout a three-year progressive course of study, students are exposed to general educational experiences in many phases of banking and are prepared for career advancement.
Sponsored by the South Carolina Bankers Association, the School includes faculty from major universities as well as banking and business executives from throughout the Southeast.
Established in 1961, it is recognized as one of the best banking schools in the Southeast, attracting students from outside the state of South Carolina. Since that time, more than 2,600 students have graduated from the school. SCBS is regarded as one of the best values available anywhere for investment of education dollars.
The South Carolina Bankers Association is the 110-year-old trade and professional association representing 95 financial institutions in the state. The SCBA is organized to effectively represent the common interest and welfare of South Carolina's banking industry and to promote the professional development of its members and individual practitioners.
The SCBA's mission is to provide legislative, regulatory, educational and product leadership on behalf of its members.
