LOCKHART — The first day of school for Union County kindergarteners in Lockhart started with a welcome celebration.
Lockhart Schools hosted a “Sip and Celebrate” for parents who were dropping children off for their first day of 5-year-old kindergarten.
Along with doughnuts and juice, parents received free books to take home.
“The book giveaway is the first of many reading activities planned this year as a part of the school’s focus on reading — for information and pleasure,” said Lockhart Principle Betsy Trakas. “We wanted to start kindergarteners off with a gift of a book to read at home.”
A selection of books was available for parents to choose from.
