Speeding and running a stop sign can get you in trouble, especially if the authorities find drugs and alcohol in your car.

Andrew Hunter Adams, 26, 660 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, is charged by the Union County Sheriff’s Office with driving under the influence, disregarding a stop sign, open container of liquor, possession of marijuana, speeding and possession of crack cocaine.

The incident report states a deputy and a constable observed a black Corvette run a stop sign at the intersection of Eisontown Road and Pea Ridge Highway Monday night. The Corvette turned right on to Pea Ridge Highway toward SC 9 and radar showed it was traveling 71 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. A traffic stop was made on the vehicle which was driven by Adams.

As Adams was being questioned, the report states the deputy observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. Adams was asked to exit the vehicle and as he did so the report states the deputy noticed he was very unsteady on his feet and had to lean on his car for assistance. He was also very nervous and would not be still as directed and was told he was going to be handcuffed and detained.

The report states that Adams initially didn’t want to put his hands behind his back and tried to stiff his arms up. As this was going on, the report states the deputy and the constable noticed a 200ml bottle of R&R liquor between the driver’s seat and the door. The bottle only had a small amount of liquor in it.

A search of the vehicle turned up another bottle of R&R under the passenger’s seat and bottle of Burnett’s vodka under the driver’s seat. Both bottles had been opened.

The search continued and partially smoked marijuana cigarettes were found in a pack of cigarettes, a BC powder pack, and in the car’s center console. A plastic bag containing a white rock-like substance that field tested positive for crack cocaine was found inside the glove compartment.

After being advised of his rights, the report states Adams said the alcohol, marijuana and crack was his. When asked about the last time he’d smoked marijuana, Adams said he’d done so minutes earlier at a place on Pea Ridge Highway.

Since the amout of crack cocaine seized was believed to be in excess of grams, Adams’ 2006 Chevy Corvette was seized by narcotics officers. Adams was transported to jail.
