The UCHS football team exectuted so well Tuesday, you would have thought it was a first round playoff game.
The Jackets' defense was flying all over the field and stinging the Eagles’ ball carriers with quick pursuit of the ball.
The young Jackets’ offense also made great strides from the scoreless showing vs. Clinton last week.
“I thought we were much more consistent vs. Chesnee than last Friday against Clinton,” offensive coordinator Bryan Robinson said about the offense.
“We took care of the ball and the offensive line did a good job of maintaining their blocks,” Robinson added.
The offense scored four times in the scrimmage game held at the UCHS track field. Senior running back Michael Johnson scored three times by beating the defenders to the corner. Once Johnson broke the edge, Chesnee had no choice but to watch the official’s arms raise in the air signaling touchdown after touchdown.
The offense received contributions of big plays from multiple players. Dierris Beacham made a nice run from the tailback position and juked several defenders for a big yardage run. Sophomore wide receiver Victor Ruth went up and made a leaping catch over an Eagles’ defender.
Defensively, UCHS played physical and pumped up the sidelines with teeth-rattling hits. The defensive line and linebackers gang tackled the Eagles’ ball carriers for numerous negative-yard runs.
The secondary got in on the action by stepping up and making the hard hits from their defensive backfield positions. There were several great open field tackles that could be used for a highlight film.
The Jackets will need both sides of the ball to carry Tuesday's effort, energy and execution in to Friday night’s competition vs. Mid-Carolina to be held at the Union County Stadium.
