WHITMIRE, SC — Tony Ramsey, Sr. 69, of Whitmire, SC died Tuesday, July 20, 2010.

He was born in Whitmire and was a son of the late William Clyde and Eloise Pruitt Ramsey.

Mr. Ramsey was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitmire, Roseboro Lodge #195, Hejaz Shrine Temple and the Goodfellows Club. He was a U. S. Army veteran. He was co-owner of Young Chevrolet Company in Whitmire and was in the automobile business for over 30 years. He was Past-President of The Southern Chevy Dealers Association.

Prior to the automobile business, he was Personnel Manager at J. P. Stevens and at the same time was Recreation Director for the town of Whitmire. As Recreation Director, Mr. Ramsey touched and influenced the lives of many young boys and girls in Whitmire. Up until the time of his death, he would receive calls and visits from his past players telling him how much he meant to them.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Mr. Ramsey was a charter member of the Duncan Creek Hunt Club.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Jeter Ramsey of Whitmire; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony Ramsey, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Whitmire; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan Ramsey Ballinger and husband David of Simpsonville, SC; two grandsons, David Ballinger, Jr. and wife, Anna Kate of Fountain Inn, SC and Baxter Ballinger of Simpsonville; a granddaughter, Susannah Ballinger of Simpsonville; SC and a brother and sister-in-law, Carey and Suzanne Ramsey of Lexington, NC. He is also survived by his faithful Border Collie, Dolly.

A visitation will be held at Gray Funeral Home, Church St., Whitmire, SC on Friday, July 23 from 7-9 p.m. with a graveside service with Masonic Rites on Saturday, July 24 at 11 a.m. at Whitmire Cemetery.

Mr. Ramsey had a zest for life that he lived to the fullest.
