A slow start couldn’t stop the Union County Dixie Debs from pounding Lewisville pitchers for 32 runs in only five innings of play Saturday night in the first round of the 2010 Dixie Girls State Tournament at the Timken Sports Complex in Union.

“We have a new complex, this is the first Deb team in state and we’re here to represent,” said Debs head coach Bennie Kershaw.

The team scored 14 runs in the bottom of the third inning and nearly batted around three times in a 32-13 victory over Lewisville.

“Every one hit great tonight and Janna (Stines) played great tonight.” Kershaw said.

Janna Stines gave up five runs in four innings and also smashed a hard line drive for an inside the park home run. Shartardrie Hall hit a home run in the second inning.

The Debs were expected to play their next game Sunday evening at the Timken complex.
