UNION, SC — Mrs. Lois Rhymer Middlebrooks, 97, 991 Monarch Hwy., Union, SC, widow of Leroy Middlebrooks died Monday, July 12, 2010 at her home.

Mrs. Middlebrooks was born in Buncombe County, NC May 24, 1913, a daughter of the late Zeb Rhymer and Ella Alexander Rhymer. She was retired from Milliken & Company-Monarch Plant. Mrs. Middlebrooks was the oldest living member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where she was faithfully active in church life as long as her health permitted and was a member of Anne Hinkle Sunday School Class.

Surviving are three daughters, Jane M. Austin and husband James, Joyce M. Vanderford and husband Charles A., all of Union, and Myra Middlebrooks of the home; a brother, Gay Rhymer and wife Virginia of Union; four grandchildren, Darrell Austin and wife Kelly of Chapin, Mark Austin and wife Robin of W. Columbia, Vince Vanderford and wife Beth of Moore and Charla McClure and husband Allen of Union; and nine great-grandchildren, Grayson Austin, Olivia Austin, Chase Austin, Cade Austin, Heather and Luke Hancock, Taylor Shope, Libby McClure, Nicholas Vanderford and Harrison Vanderford.

Mrs. Middlebrooks was predeceased by five sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Benny Green. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Middlebrooks' grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The following are asked to assemble at the church at 2:15 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Freddie Shirley, Jackie Redman, Morris Rhymer, Jr and Maurice Gregory.

Visitation will be held 1-2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.

The family is at the home, 991 Monarch Hwy., Union.
