UNION, SC — Mrs. Valerie Varner Blitchington, 84, wife of Jesse Blitchington, Sr., 318 Varner Rd., Union, SC died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home.

Mrs. Blitchington was born in Union, SC September 4, 1925, a daughter of the late Mige Varner and Fugie Roark Varner. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Mary Lawson and husband Wendell of Union; a son, Jesse Blitchington, Jr of the home; eight sisters, Mary Sox of Lexington, Vera Beck, Carol Step, both of N. Augusta, Lillian Thompson and husband Fred of Aiken, Faith Edland and husband Lloyd of Greer, Evelyn Brown and husband Harold, Lillie Kirby and husband Ron and Linda Bishop and husband Lindsey, all of Union; a brother, Robert Varner of Union; 20 nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Blitchington was predeceased by a sister, Annie Grace Varner.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. David Lewis and Rev. Guy Langston. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tony Edland, Jason Bishop, Michael Bennett, Jordan Bennett, Christopher Bennett and Calvin Williams.

Visitation will be held in the church immediately after the service.

Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church, 763 Neal Shoals Rd., Union, SC 29379 or to Hospice Care of SC, 408 N. Duncan ByPass, Suite 6, Union, SC 29379.

The family is at the home of her sister, Lillie and Ron Kirby, 328 Varner Rd., Union.
