Born March 17, 1933 in Union County, SC, he was the son of the late James T. Petty, Sr. and Lizzie Frost Petty. He was a veteran of the United States Army and worked as a foreman for Cablevision.
In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was a brother and four sisters.
Survivors include sons Henry Petty (Jane) of Union, SC, John Wayne Petty of Buffalo, SC, Bryan Petty (Becky) of Pineville, NC; stepson Timmy Hopper of Buffalo, SC; daughters Cathy Petty of Rockwell, NC, April Varnadore of Union, SC; step-daughter Lisa McDowell of Gaffney, SC; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial Service: 3 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Main Street Baptist Church (1615 Main Street, China Grove, NC 28023) with the Rev. Larry Beaver officiating. Friends and family will be received at the home of Cathy Petty (Rockwell, NC) following the service.
