PHILADELPHIA, PA — James William Smith 76, 4918 North 12th St., Philadelphia, PA, departed this life June 13, 2010 at the Einstein Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.

A native of Union, SC, he was the husband of Effie Jeter Smith and the son of the late Earley and Alma Smith of Jonesville, SC. He was preceded in death by a son, James Howard Smith.

He was a member and deacon of Grace Baptist Church in Philadelphia.

He attended the public schools Union and later relocated to Ohio and then to Philadelphia where he resided for the past 50 years.

Left to reflect upon precious and loving memories are his wife of 59 years of the home; two sons, Ruffus (Vera) of Williamstown, NJ and Lewis Smith of Baltimore, MD; five daughters, Linda, Brenda, and Terry Smith, Denise (Joseph) Johnson, all of Philadelphia, and Joyce Ann Walker of Union, SC; 35 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Franklin Eugene (Barbara) Smith of Elkin Park, PA and Albert V. (Helen) Smith of Moore, SC; two sisters, Geraldine (Gaines) Eison and Queen (Robert) Mims of Jonesville, SC; two uncles; four aunts; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday June 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Third Eternal Baptist Church, 5364 Chew Avenue, Philadelphia, PA.
