SMYRNA, SC — Nellie Ann Shipton Peterson, 68, 422 Rock Cut Road, passed away June 9, 2010 at Upstate Carolina Medicial Center.

Born in Kings Creek, Mrs. Peterson was the wife of the late Floyd William Peterson and the daughter of the late Johnny and Sara Lovelace Shipton. She retired from textiles and was of Church of God faith.

Mrs. Peterson is survived by four daughters, Peggy Sue Dover of Hinesville, GA, Roxanne Brawley of Union, Tammy Martin of Smyrna, and Amy Humphries of Smyrna; two sons, Larry Wayne "Scooter" Peterson of Parkhills, MO and Floyd Allen Peterson of Blacksburg; a nephew that she raised, Carl David Shipton of Blacksburg; a niece that she raised, Doris Shipton Turnage of Sharon; two brothers, Ernest Shipton of Sumter and Fred Shipton of Lugoff; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Peterson was preceded in death by a son, John Willie Peterson; two brothers, John George Shipton and James Shipton; and three sisters, Lenora Westmoreland, Virginia Lagos, and Vina Chandler.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening after 4 p.m. at the residence. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 11, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Smyrna Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Goodwin officiating. Interment will follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
