UNION COUNTY — The Union County High School tennis team (10-4, 3-3) picked up a big win over Chapman (6-1) on Monday.

“I was worried because we were playing short-handed with a player out sick,” said Coach Tom Adamo. “That means several had to move up in the line-up, and they stepped it up.”

Adamo said David Kicidis and Ben Stone moved up in the line-up and had impressive wins. No. 1 and 2 singles Matt Haney and Andrew Adamo won in straight sets. The team swept the first four singles, with the only loss being for No. 5, Grant Harris, who Adamo said played well once nerves settled.

The No. 1 doubles team of Jacob Gault and Kane Quinn won in straight sets in what Adamo said was a very entertaining match. Adamo said “the Twin Towers” team of Tyler Barber and Ty Kingsmore are still undefeated after winning the No. 2 doubles match 8-7.

The team hosts Woodruff tonight (Thursday, April 24).
