UNION — A local man has been taken into custody and charged with murder after an investigation which began on Wednesday.

In a statement released Wednesday evening, the Union Public Safety Department reported that the body of Raymond Davis, 61, of 902 Union Blvd., Union, had been located in a wooded area that consisted of dense underbrush near his residence. The press release stated that foul play appeared to be a factor.

Public Safety officers had been searching for Davis since Tuesday night after a relative who was concerned about his welfare reported him missing. The relative was concerned about Davis’ welfare due to a report that he had been in an argument with his step-son. The relative and Public Safety officers went to Davis’ residence and inspected the premises and it was during the inspection that the possibility of foul play was first suspected.

On Thursday, the Union Public Safety Department reported that — with assistance from the Union County Sheriff’s Office — Davis’ step-son, Travelle Lamar Burros, 41, of 902 Union Blvd., Union, had been taken into custody without incident. Union Public Safety reported that Burros has been charged with murder, and that the murder investigation is still active.

Union Public Safety will release more information as it becomes available.

Union County Coroner William Holcombe has scheduled an autopsy to be performed on Davis’ body this Friday.
