Officials with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office have released the identity of the alleged gunman who barricaded himself inside the bathroom at Waffle House in the 4500 block of Hamilton Road.
William Madison Cahall, 36, of Woodstock is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony obstruction of officers and criminal trespass.
According to reports, deputies were dispatched in regards to a suspicious person being in the restroom of the Waffle House for close to two hours. Deputies made verbal contact with Cahall through the door. Cahall allegedly refused to come out and made it clear he had a weapon.
After several hours talking with Cahall, mutual aid from the LaGrange Police Department was requested for assistance. LPD negotiators and Emergency Response Unit members arrived on the scene, according to the report.
Negotiations were made until officers removed Cahall from the restaurant using gas. He was taken into custody at 8:42 a.m.
Cahall is currently in the Troup County Jail awaiting a bond hearing. Stewart Smith, public information officer with the TCSO, said more charges are anticipated.
