UNION COUNTY — The growth the Union County Chamber of Commerce experienced in 2013 is continuing in 2014 with the organization increasing its membership to 225.

In January, Chamber Executive Director Torance Inman reported that chamber membership grew to a total of more than 220 members.

On Friday, Inman announced that the chamber has gained three new members — the Union County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, the Palmetto Council Boy Scouts of America, and the Union Wells Fargo Bank — in March. Inman said the three new members announced Friday bring to nine the number of new members the chamber has added in recent months. He said that as of Friday morning the chamber has a total of 225 members.

“The nine new members are Lewis Funeral Home, Wells Fargo, Upstate Medical Supply, Hudson Lawn Services, People’s Choice Financial, Butler Law Firm, Union County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission, Boy Scouts of America, and Mr. David Tribble,” Inman said. “Chamber membership is open to any individual, business, industry, non-profit, single proprietor, and any individual group whether it be a civic group or church who is interested in growing Union County’s business climate or quality of life.”

Banquet Rescheduled

Inman also announced that the Union County Chamber of Commerce Annual Member Banquet has been rescheduled.

“The banquet which was originally scheduled for April 24 is now scheduled for May 15,” Inman said. “As a result of so many activities being scheduled for that week in Union County we decided that rather than conflict with those events to change our date.”

Inman pointed out that the need to reschedule the member banquet confirmed the saying that “If you don’t think something is going on in Union County try and schedule an event.”

This was not the first time the chamber has had to reschedule the banquet. The 2013 banquet had to be rescheduled to accommodate Gov. Nikki Haley who served as guest speaker.

At each banquet, the chamber recognizes the Industry of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Service Group of the Year, and Volunteer of the Year.

Inman said this year’s banquet will focus on the award winners and their contributions to Union County.

The Annual Member Banquet will be held at the Tabernacle Baptist Church Family Life Center.
