News Around Lockhart: More rain, no more leg ache, and no wild game

Connie Porter Contributing Columnist

March 21, 2014

Another rainy day, (this is Wednesday). Do you remember a song by that title a long time ago, well I think it was written for Lockhart. We have happy faces when the sun shines. Now we are gloomy. Okay, enough of my depression!

Leg Ache Gone

I could not sleep last night with a leg ache, well the ache is gone, I did something I should have done a long time ago. Go see Bridgett Sherman, my chiropractor, I swear she cures it all. My Mondays and Wednesdays have been so full for the last six months that I wasn’t able to take care of Connie. But I’m back, and you might try to put me down, but I’m like a coiled spring, I bounce right back up.

No Wild Game

I wonder how the Wild Game Supper went Saturday. Hellen was going to give Chuck and I tickets but he wasn’t up to par to be in a crowd. I’ve never been, but by the time I would go through the line all the wild things would be gone and I’d end up with beans and taters, and that’s what I would want — just to eat B&T.

Oh when I was growing up, my dad and uncles were hunters and fishermen and we ate wild game and didn’t think any different of it, it was just a natural thing. Until my pet rabbit was on the table!!! I didn’t know that’s why we were raising it I thought it was something to play with — gee I was an only child, no brothers or sisters to play with.

Income Report

I hope we get the Grant for new sewage lines. If you live on the upper southside of town and someone hasn’t come around for the income report, call Ailene or Brenda at town hall at 545-2103, Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m.-noon.

If you are below income you won’t have to pay to connect to the new sewer lines. The grant will take care of it. Isn’t that great.

I want to correct myself on these dinners that Lockhart First Baptist Church has been having. They are put on by the group called Carolina Christmas for the Aruba Mission Trip. I thought it was the youths. Sorry!

Now on March 26 the Aruba Mission Team will serve a meal before the Wednesday night service. It will be pulled BBQ pork sandwiches, cole slaw, pickles, chips and dessert. They will accept donations for the meal, but please remember that this is a fund-raising event, so please give generously. This was in their bulletin.

Girl Scout Leader

Kim Petty would like to know if there is anyone interested in becoming a Girl Scout Leader. Kim has done a terrific job for years, but now she says it’s time for someone else to take over. Her number is 864-987-2517. Please keep this program open.

Remember In Prayer

Let’s pray for Olan and Laura Dabbs and Yvonne and Paul Rash, they have to travel to Spartanburg everyday for treatments and rehab. Keep them safe, and let the husbands get better.

Marlene Shugart needs your prayers, she’s a sick lady.

Pray for Nancy Hope, I haven’t seen her in awhile.

New Mobile Home

Have you rode by and seen that Dee and Linda Watts have a new mobile home. They are so proud, and I’m happy for them.

Missing Dog

Someone went by Craig’s and took his dog Bugger off the chain. Who has him? Craig has had him for year and it’s not fair to the dog, since that’s all he knows, is Craig. Please bring him back he does have health issues and you could be the cause of his death.

I hope I haven’t offended anyone in this article. I’d hate for a petition to go around about me again. What happened to freedom of speech? Sorry I wasn’t going to do this. The End.

Snow Choices

When it snows you have two choices: shovel or make snow angels.

A Dog’s Love

A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than you love yourself.

Interesting Answer

I called a temp agency looking for work, and they asked if I had any phone skills.

I said,” I called you, didn’t I?”

Saturday Night

Chuck and I went to Spartanburg, Saturday night, ate at Ryans and took a tour of the Academy, stopped and talked to Cindy Childers and Soapy Crawford, and looked at guns and bows. I thought Mr. Stingy was going to buy something but we just looked and looked and wished.

In Memoriam

Gestamp, where Chuck works planted a tree and put up a marker in honor of Mark Childers in the front yard of the plant. That is just the nicest thing anyone could do for his death.

Well that’s about all I can think of at this time. So call me if you want to add to next week’s letter. 864-545-6652
