In my last letter I reported that Doc Young was in the hospital, he was not, it was Myrtis that was in from Tuesday to Friday. I’m glad she’s home and doing very well. Everything else was true, I think.
John McCarley told me that if I got on Facebook I could find out everything about everyone. If I got on, I feel that no one would accept me as a friend, because they’d be afraid that I’d write about them in the paper.
Death Of A Fireman
It was a very sad week for a lot of us here and around Lockhart. My nephew, Mark Childers, passed away Saturday. Before Mark married he lived at my son’s place (until my son’s death), and was just one of the family. The Lockhart Fire Department honored him with a full Fireman’s Funeral.
Our firemen are volunteers, but have to go to school for proper training, they don’t get paid, but proudly represent our fire department. They don’t give a second thought about going into a burning house to make sure there aren’t people inside. They put their lives on the line for us, and so I think it’s a wonderful thing when they can be honored.
Two weeks ago at another firefighter’s funeral, Mark commented that when he passed he would like to be put on the fire truck and rode around the fire station, just never realizing it would come this soon. And so for his love of the fire house, they did just that.
My heart goes out to Cindy, and just hope she stays strong and brave.
Well it’s diet time again! My customers and I talk about walking, but it’s really too cold to go out, so that will wait until spring, and another 10 pounds.
When I lived in the North — and I know I’ve told this story before — my neighbor and I would walk everyday, rain, shine and snow and ice. We’d bundle up in the winter, and trudge through the deep snow, that was more exercise. Sometimes we’d walk in town, and the sidewalks would be slick with ice that you really could not see until you’d fall on your knees. If the weather was below zero, we’d just put on more clothes. But I don’t even own anything that warm now, so when I go outside here, I am very chilled. I do put a scarf around my neck, and that helps a little. But I’m not going that far.
So! Last night I started on my elliptical, for exercising. I did a whole 5 minutes and thought my arms would fall off. I think it’s been 6 months since I was on it, and I did a whole hour with out any trouble. But I did it every night. I’ll try to keep you posted unless I pass out first.
A police officer pulled over a guy for weaving across two lanes of traffic.
He walked up to the driver’s window and asked, “You drinkin’?”
The driver said, “You buyin’ ?”
As soon as the hospital made me put on one of those little gowns, I knew the end was in sight.
Cookies For Sale
It’s Girl Scout Cookie time, so find one and put in your order. I heard some of the mothers were going to fill their trunks with them and start selling door to door, also.
Well this is good night. 864-54-56652
