SPARTANBURG — Sims lost to McCracken 0-3 in volleyball on Monday with scores of 13-25, 10-25. and 19-25.
Coach Tracy Duncan said that despite the loss the team continues to improve in terms of cohesion and in various aspects of the game.
“We are finally coming together and looking like a team, with me seeing so much improvements on our passing, setting, hitting and serving,” Duncan said. “In the first game, we were winning and some side outs hurt us and one girl served like ten points in a row. We just could not recover from that.
In the second game, we played much better,” she said. “We had some nice digs by Bailey Betenbaugh, and some nice sets by our setters. Shy Means served well, as well as Emily Phillips. We just could not come together to get the win. We let them have too many free balls.”
Duncan said that team continued to play hard in the third game but victory was just not to be.
In the third game, we tied it up, but could not regain the lead,” Duncan said. “Again, Emily Phillips served well, and some of the subs coming in played well. We are just looking for that victory, and I know that we can do it. If we trust each other and have confidence in one another, I know it will happen.”
Duncan said the team’s next game will be in tournament action on Saturday in Spartanburg.
“The tournament will be a single elimination tournament Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Upward Stars Volleyball Facility in Spartanburg (The Old Waccamaw Pottery),” Duncan said. “All conference players will be announced during the tournament, too. I am really proud of how we are looking. We do not look like the same team that played at the beginning of September.”
