The Fair Forest Chapter, NSDAR, met Oct. 1 in the Union County Museum Room.
Harriett Berry, Regent, called the meeting to order. Jane Owenby, Chaplain, read the Devotional from Bouquet of Blessings, “Blessed: A Bouquet of Friends,” Proverbs 17:17. Amy Bruce, Chairman, lead the chapter in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S., the Salute to the Flag of S.C., and the singing of the Star-Spangled Banner accompanied by Kathleen Read.
Martha Whitener, Chairman, read the President General’s Message, “A Season of Planning for this Year.” Mrs. Read, Chairman, read the National Defense Report, “The Burial of an Unclaimed Veteran.” Mrs. Bruce, Secretary, read the minutes of the Sept. 3 meeting, and Margaret McCarley, Treasurer, read the Treasurer’s Report.
Paul Davis, LTC Retired, presented a slide program on his experiences coaching the All Marine Wounded Warrior Rifle Team. “Wounded Warriors” are those service members who are wounded, ill, or injured according to the Department of Defense. All the military services use a variety of athletic programs to help wounded warriors re-integrate with society. They compete annually in the Wounded Warrior Games which the Marines have won each of the last four years.
The next meeting will be Nov. 5 in the Union County Museum meeting room. November is Native American Heritage Month. Nancy Basket, Native American Woman, will present the program.
