UNION COUNTY — The Union County Yellow Jackets fell to the Woodruff Wolverines with a final score of 19-15.

The Yellow Jackets’ region opener against the Woodruff Wolverines proved to be an exciting, defensive game, which ended in a heartbreaking loss for the Yellow Jackets.

Woodruff was the first to put points on the board with a touchdown without the PAT, making the score 6-0. Then, with 3:69 left in the quarter, Union County RB Dee Washington scored a TD, and Braylin Brown caught the two-point conversion, making the score 8-6.

Both defenses kept their opponents from scoring again for the rest of the half and throughout the 3rd quarter, and the score was 8-6 going into the 4th quarter. With 9:55 in the game, T.J. Foster scored a touchdown, giving Union County a 15-6 lead. Woodruff then got right back in the game, returning the kick for around a 70-yard touchdown and making the score 15-13.

With 37 seconds to go in the game, Woodruff’s Gist connected with Rooks for a touchdown, giving Woodruff a 19-15 lead. Then, Union County QB Ben Beck connected with a big pass to Braylin Brown to put the Yellow Jackets back in Woodruff territory, but on the following play, Beck’s pass was picked off, giving Woodruff control with only seconds on the clock. Woodruff picked up the win with a four-point lead.
