JONESVILLE — A collision between two cars at the intersection of U.S. 176 and New Hope Church Road resulted in a fire but no injuries Thursday morning.

L/Cpl Billy Elder, Community Relations Officer for the S.C. Highway Patrol, said that the accident occurred at 7:15 a.m. when a 2005 Chevrolet SUV traveling south on New Hope Church Road pulled onto U.S. 176 and was struck by a 1999 Toyota traveling east on U.S. 176. Elder said the collision resulted in a small fire which was quickly extinguished. He said no one was injured.

Elder said the driver of the Toyota was Virginia Dallesandro, 24, 2027 Magnolia Ridge, Vspasia, Alabama.

The driver of the Chevrolet was Ken Taylor, 40, 229 Christopher Road, Union. Elder said Taylor was charged with failure to yield the right of way.

Monday’s Collision

The Jonesville area was also the scene of collision between a car and a tractor trailer Monday afternoon.

L/Cpl Tony Keller, SCHP Community Relations Officer, said Thursday that the accident occurred at 2:53 p.m. at the intersection of S.C. 18 and the Jerusalem Road. Keller said the accident occurred when a 2006 Infiniti traveling west on S.C. 18 drove left of center and struck an eastbound 2007 Volvo tractor-trailer.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was David Porter, 50, of Shelby, N.C., who Keller said was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.

Even though she was wearing a seat belt, Keller said the driver of the Infiniti, Annette K. Thompson, 41, of Jonesville, was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He said that Thompson was charged with driving left of center.
