UCHS crowns Homecoming Queen, Princesses

September 29, 2013

UNION COUNTY — Union County High School Spirit Week culminated Friday with a massive pep rally, and of course, Friday night’s Homecoming football game.

At halftime during Friday night’s game, the 2013 Union County High School Homecoming Queen and her court were presented, and Chakira Worthy was named Homecoming Queen, with Paige Foster as 1st runner-up and Hydia Green as 2nd runner-up. Other winners include 9th grade princess Brooke Mitchell, 10th grade princess Maya Whitener, and 11th grade princess Chelise Mormon.

During the pep rally Friday afternoon, each class — seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen — competed to show the most school spirit. Students were dressed in black and gold, which was the Spirit Week theme for the day. The event included performances from the UCHS Marching Band, as well as varsity and JV cheerleaders, and a three-legged race.

The event also included the crowning of the 2013 UCHS Homecoming King — Michael Todd Harris. Harris and his fellow contestants performed various talents as they were introduced to the student body. Harris’ talent was dancing.

Also at the pep rally, senior football player Vernon Gilliam was named UCHS Mr. Football for raising the most money for charity of any player on the team.

Homecoming activities will continue into next week, since the school had to reschedule its Powderpuff football game and bonfire due to weather. Both events — which were originally scheduled for Wednesday — will be held Monday at UCHS. The bonfire will begin at 7 p.m. and will serve to kick off the game, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Admission to the bonfire and game will be $2.
